The St. James Caring Center Awarded CARES Grant
The State of Missouri made available $22 million in grant funds through the CARES Act for eligible Missouri nonprofits directly impacted by the public health emergency, with priority given to those serving at-risk populations in the areas of: homelessness prevention, job training, food insecurity and basic needs, at-risk youth services, childcare, and academic/educational support. The grant allows nonprofits to continue providing community safety nets that improve quality of life and lead to economic and community stability.
The St. James Caring Center was awarded a grant in the amount of $135,000! Our dream to purchase a passenger van to transport seniors on short road trips, deliver food to the homebound, and make donation pickup and deliveries came true. Of course, right now the road trips will not be happening due to health concerns. We have fantastic plans for the future.
Many additional items were purchased in relation to food insecurity and basic needs. Distribution will begin during our next Commodity Day.
Our goal is always to support St. James and surrounding area community partners. With that in mind, the search for a van piloted Director Nancy Montgomery to Hutcheson Ford. And there it was… a beauty… a 12-passenger van… with all the required options… and at the right price! Working with Hutcheson Ford salesman Rodney Barnett secured the van for next day delivery to the St. James Caring Center.
The St. James Caring Center and Senior Center can never say it often enough, “Thank You to the community we serve and the individuals, businesses, churches and other community partners that support our facilities. What we do to assist families is possible only because of you.”
A special thanks to Zach Woolsey with Monarch Inc. who assisted with securing the grant.
