Join Our Cellar Team: Where Great Wine Meets a Great Life
At St. James Winery we believe that the best wines are made by people who enjoy coming to work. We are looking for a Cellar Technician who is passionate about the craft but also values a predictable schedule and a supportive team environment.
Why You’ll Love Working With Us:
- Respect for Your Time: We strive for a sustainable work-life balance, even during the busy seasons.
- A Culture of Safety and Support: Your well-being is our priority. We maintain a clean, organized, and safe cellar where everyone’s voice is heard.
- Growth-Focused: We don’t just want you to work here; we want you to grow. We offer opportunities for professional development and cross-training.
What You’ll Do:
- Perform all aspects of wine production, from fruit processing to bottling.
- Every day is different: one day you might be pumping 25,000 gallons of wine, then the next you might be operating a destemmer that processes up to 50 tons of grapes per hour, or you might operate a 60-ton grape press. Some days you will be dumping glass on the bottling line, or operating the case packer or robotic palletizer.
- Maintain cellar hygiene and equipment with a focus on quality. We are a food-processing facility, so in between using this cool equipment, we also have to keep everything clean and sanitary. A great cook always cleans up their kitchen!
- Collaborate daily with a close-knit team that values clear communication and mutual respect.
Work Schedule:
- Harvest season (Aug. – Oct.): 8-9 hours per day, 5-6 days per week. We operate 24 hours/days during this time, so there are three shifts.
- Non-harvest season (Nov. – Jul.): Dayshift (4 x 10 hours) per week, no weekends.
Benefits:
- Medical insurance, with optional dental and vision
- Simple IRA with matching company contributions
- Paid time off
- Discounts on wine and goods purchased from the Tasting Room
Requirements:
- 21 years of age or older
- Team leadership skills preferred, including communication, motivation and giving and receiving constructive feedback
- Ability to communicate in English in both written and verbal forms
- Ability to follow written instructions and perform to SOP’s
- Ability to perform basic math – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Ability to read a tape measure in detail
- Must have reliable transportation
- Ability to multi-task
