POSITION DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Laborer Salary Grade: Z1-1
Department: Environmental Services Salary Range: $31,838.56 - $44,072.01
Date: March 3, 2025 FLSA: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
EMPLOYEE BENEFITS: Family health and dental insurance plan, life insurance, twelve (12) paid holidays and one (1) personal holiday, two (2) weeks’ vacation after first year of employment, twelve (12) sick days per year.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Act as a carrier on a packer truck on designated collection routes, picking up refuse containers, recyclables or yard waste as assigned, and depositing the contents of containers into a collection vehicle, and returning containers to prescribed area. Make special collections as assigned. Note variances in customers’ services. Observe surrounding conditions such as citizens, equipment, property, etc. in order to assure that solid waste is collected in a safe manner. Regulate traffic in hazardous conditions in order to assure safety conditions for the collection personnel and the general public. Wash collection vehicles. Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work, and operate a variety of equipment in the collection of solid waste. Must have the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other city employees.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be in good physical condition and be able to withstand extreme weather conditions. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds.
