JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:
Position Title: Building and Zoning Inspector                                    Salary Grade: G3-01
Department: Community Development                                              Salary Range: $38,909.73 - $53,860.16
Date: July 18, 2025                                                                             FLSA: Full Time, Non-Exempt, Temporary or Permanent

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Ensures compliance and enforcement of current code and zoning regulations.  Works directly with citizens, Director of Community Development and Chief Building Inspector.  Coordinates with several other City Departments to ensure a coordination of efforts related to land-use and zoning issues.  Must be able to maintain professionalism and effectively represent the City in court proceedings related to code violations.  In coordination with the Chief Building Inspector, provide building maintenance as needed.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Associate's degree required. One to two years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong communication skills are essential.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a valid Missouri Class F driver’s license. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and fellow City employees. Knowledge of or experience in construction is required. Must be able to read and interpret construction plans, as well as apply codes from both the City’s adopted regulations and the International Code Council (ICC) standards.  Must pass ICC Property Maintenance and ICC residential inspector exams within one (1) year from date of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be in good physical condition and be able to withstand extreme weather conditions.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  The employee is frequently required to stand or walk for long periods.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
